Newcastle United defeated Hull City 2-1 at St James’ Park to recover from their heavy loss away to Leeds and extend their unbeaten home streak in the Premier League to six matches.

The win also marked Newcastle’s first home victory over Hull City in the Premier League, ending a streak of one draw and two losses against the Tigers on their own turf.

Newcastle United start quickly

Newcastle wasted no time taking control of the match.

Harvey Barnes was central to the early attacking efforts, delivering a precise pass to Joe Willock inside the box. Willock took a touch and then fired a powerful shot into the near post, giving Newcastle the lead.

The hosts doubled their advantage just seven minutes into the game.

Barnes gained possession near the halfway line and dribbled through the Hull defense, finding Lewis Hall. The defender kept his composure and drove a low shot into the far corner to make it 2-0.

St James’ Park was lively as Newcastle appeared firmly in command.

Hull withstand pressure as Newcastle misses penalty

Hull struggled to create clear chances as Newcastle kept pressing.

They had a golden opportunity when goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček’s pass went directly to Mohamed Belloumi, but Hull failed to capitalize.

Shortly before halftime, Newcastle also had a chance to extend their lead after Sorba Thomas was penalized for a foul on Jacob Murphy inside the box.

Yoane Wissa took the penalty, but Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis made an excellent save to keep the score at 2-0 at halftime.

Mohamed-Ali Cho pulls one back

Hull boss Sergej Jakirović made substitutions at halftime and brought on another player around the 60-minute mark, trying to change the game.

His adjustments paid off.

Mohamed Belloumi found Mohamed-Ali Cho, who smashed his shot off the left post in the 67th minute.

That goal boosted Hull’s confidence and shifted the game’s momentum.

The Tigers pressed for an equalizer, with Belloumi testing goalkeeper Horníček before Tim Iroegbunam sent another shot over the bar.

Newcastle hold on for crucial win

Even with Hull’s late surge, Newcastle managed to safeguard their lead and secure a vital 2-1 victory.

The result is a positive response after their loss to Leeds and extends their unbeaten streak at St James’ Park to six Premier League matches, with four wins and two draws.

Both teams now have eight points from five matches, making this result especially important ahead of the international break.

For Hull, the loss ended their hopes of matching the feat of Portsmouth in 2003/04, as the first newly promoted Premier League team since then to stay unbeaten in their first five games.
