Bodø/Glimt beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Wednesday night. It was the tightest game of the night, and the small margin hid how much Glimt controlled it.

How it unfolded

The first half was scrappy.

Dortmund picked up two early bookings in the 13th and 25th minutes, and neither side controlled much of the game. Glimt got the breakthrough in the 52nd minute, and from there the question was whether Dortmund could find an equaliser. They changed four players at once in the 60th minute and a fifth in the 78th, but it never really looked like they’d score.

The stats show how even it was.

Glimt had 51% of the ball and 11 shots (4 on target), while Dortmund had 10 shots (3 on target) and 9 corners to Glimt’s 4. Dortmund had much of the pressure and no clear chances to show for it.

Why it matters for Dortmund

Dortmund started their campaign with a 3-2 win over Villarreal, so this is their first defeat of the league phase. It leaves them with three points from two games, which is fine but not comfortable. The performance will worry the coaching staff more than the result. A team with a squad this talented should do more than hit one-goal margins.

For Glimt, it is a statement win. Playing at home against a side with Dortmund’s pedigree, they were disciplined, picked up no bookings, and took their one clear moment.

What’s next

Dortmund travel to Sabah on October 20, a game they will be expected to win, and then host Real Betis on November 4. After that comes a trip to Arsenal on November 24, which is the kind of fixture that can shape the whole league phase. If Dortmund drop more points before then, that Arsenal game will matter even more.
