Another England call up, another major disappointment for Cole Palmer!

England manager Thomas Tuchel has left Chelsea star Cole Palmer out of his 25 man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain, despite the midfielder being available for selection.

The decision has raised eyebrows, particularly because Palmer has been in impressive form for Chelsea this season, recording five goals and three assists in 11 appearances.

However, Tuchel has made it clear that his selection is about more than individual performances at club level.

The England boss explained that he wants to reward players who attended the previous international camp and impressed him, rather than disrupt a group that has built strong chemistry.

Speaking about Palmer’s omission, Tuchel said:

“It counts when you are in camp. I just said last time that he misses too many opportunities to impress.”

Tuchel also insisted that the decision was not personal, adding that the door remains open for Palmer to return to the national team.

A MESSAGE FROM TUCHEL?

Palmer’s omission is particularly interesting because he withdrew from England’s September camp after Chelsea reported an injury that needed managing.

Although England’s medical staff checked his fitness with Chelsea ahead of this latest squad announcement, Tuchel decided to stick with the players who impressed during the previous camp.

The decision appears to send a clear message: representing England requires availability, commitment and the ability to make an impression when given the opportunity.

NEW FACES GET THEIR CHANCE

While Palmer misses out, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham and Fulham youngster Josh King have received their first senior England call-ups.

Tuchel has also retained much of the group from the previous camp, showing his preference for continuity as England prepare for two difficult encounters.

England will face Croatia at Wembley on November 12 before travelling to Madrid to take on Spain on November 15.

WHAT NEXT FOR PALMER?

For Palmer, the focus now returns to Chelsea, where he will have the opportunity to continue delivering strong performances and strengthen his case for an England recall.

There is no doubt about his quality, but Tuchel has made it clear that talent alone will not guarantee a place in his squad.

Is Thomas Tuchel right to leave Cole Palmer out, or is England making a mistake by excluding one of its most creative players?
