Inter Milan finally had something to celebrate in Europe after Carlos Augusto’s second-half goal secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk at San Siro.
Coming into the match under pressure after two consecutive Champions League defeats, Inter knew they needed a response. Cristian Chivu’s men started with urgency, creating early opportunities through Marcus Thuram and Ange-Yoan Bonny, but Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk produced important saves to keep the visitors in the contest.
Shakhtar also threatened on the counterattack, forcing Inter to remain alert defensively. Despite their attacking efforts, neither side could find a breakthrough before the interval.
The decisive moment arrived in the 77th minute when Carlos Augusto found the net, sending the home supporters into celebration and giving Inter a valuable lead.
