Sporting CP suffered a painful 3–2 defeat to LASK in a dramatic Champions League encounter, despite Luis Suárez scoring twice at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Sporting made a flying start when Luis Suárez opened the scoring in the fifth minute, giving the Portuguese side an early advantage. However, LASK responded through Christoph Lang in the 15th minute to level the contest at 1–1.
After a competitive first half, LASK returned with renewed determination. Sasa Kalajdžić scored in the 63rd minute before Krystof Daněk added another five minutes later, turning the match on its head and putting the visitors firmly in control.
Sporting refused to surrender, and Suárez struck again in the 89th minute to give the home supporters hope of a late comeback. But LASK held on through the closing moments to secure a stunning away victory.
For Sporting, the defeat will be particularly frustrating after taking an early lead and controlling much of the possession. LASK, meanwhile, deserve credit for their clinical finishing and resilience under pressure.
